Update on Equivalent Fee Amounts for JPO International Search Fees under the PCT

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced updated equivalent fee amounts for international search services conducted by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

These adjustments revise the fee equivalence between the Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Swiss Franc (CHF), which is used as a reference currency within the PCT system.

The updated amounts are as follows:

  • JPY 169,000 is equivalent to CHF 848
  • JPY 143,000 is equivalent to CHF 718

The new fee structure will take effect on May 1, 2026.

Applicants filing international patent applications and selecting the JPO as the International Searching Authority should take note of these updated amounts when preparing their filings and budgeting costs.

This change reflects routine adjustments to maintain consistency in fee calculations across currencies within the PCT framework.
